The Great Dancer

——To the British Ballet Dancer, Madame Poole

As the Chinese old sayings says：
The man is a flower in his 30
But the woman is a pile of tofu leftover in her 30
I doubted it for so many years

When I started to learn English in college
I ever read a short English article about a lady
She started to play piano in her 60
And then went to stage in her 80
When I started to write English poems and translate poems
I knew a lady in China
She made her birthday speech in her 103
However I never see a lady
You can dance Ballet in your 77
You’re such a great dancer in my eyes
You said Ballet is your life
You dance as a dear Queen
You look like a young lady
Only on your wrinkles we know your age

Now I’ve found my answer
As your sayings says:
It’s never too late to do what you love
So I think I can still write poems in my 77
And I can still translate poems in my 103

——写给英国芭蕾舞者，普尔夫人

中国有句民间谚语：
“男人30一朵花
女人30豆腐渣”
多年来，我一直在质疑这句话

上大学学习英语的时候
曾经读到一篇英语短文
说一个女人60岁开始学弹钢琴
80岁登台钢琴演奏
开始写英语诗歌、翻译诗歌的时候
得知中国有个女人
103岁还发表生日感言
但我从未见过像你这样一个女人
77岁还可以跳芭蕾：
在我眼里，你是一位不朽的舞者
你说芭蕾舞就是你的生命
你翩翩起舞如同一位尊贵的女王
你青春的气息如同一个年轻的少女
只有你脸上的皱纹表明了你的年龄

现在，我终于找到答案了
正如你的箴言所说：
“做自己热爱的事情什么时候都不晚！”
所以呀，我觉得我77岁，还可以写诗
103岁，还可以翻译诗歌

苏菲简介

苏菲（Sophy Chen），本名陈丽华，中国当代女诗人、翻译家。美国英语“传奇诗人”。“苏菲诗歌&翻译网”、“苏菲诗歌&翻译杂志社”、“苏菲国际翻译出版社”创建人。“苏菲英语讲坛”创办者兼主讲人。毕业于西安外国语大学英文学院。
获2012年度“国际最佳翻译家奖”。“中国当代诗歌奖”（2013—2014）翻译奖。
翻译出版英译诗歌集六部：《花动摇》、《藏香》、《生之瞭望》、《异调》、《胴体向前》、《白娘子诗传》。

About Sophy Chen

Sophy Chen, her name, Lihua and family name, Chen, is the Chinese contemporary poetess, translator, and American English “Legendary Poet”. She is the founder of “Sophy Poetry & Translation Website”, “Sophy Poetry & Translation” Magazine  and “Sophy International Translation Publishing House”. She is the founder and leading lecturer of “Sophy English Forum”.She graduated from English Institute of Xian Foreign Studies University in English Literature.
She won the annual “International Best Translator” Award 2012 and the Chinese Contemporary Poetry (2013-2014) Translation Award.
She translated and published six Chinese poetry collections into English, The Flower Swaying (2014) , The Tibetan Incense(2014), The Outlook of Life (2014), The Different Tunes (2014), The Body Forward (2015), and A Poetry Biography for White Snake (2015), etc.
